Nuisance Enforcement
The City of Central City has contracted with a third-party to address and enforce nuisances within the City. The third-party will begin inspecting properties within the city limits beginning the week of August 10, 2020. The City has instructed the third-party to identify junk, junk vehicles, overgrown grass or weeds, and trees overhanging sidewalks and streets or alleys as the City’s first priority.
When nuisances are identified, as per City Code Chapter 50-Nuisance Abatement Procedure, Chapter 51-Junk and Junk Vehicles, Chapter 52-Weeds and Grasses or Chapter 151.03-Duty to Trim Trees, the property owner will be notified and ordered to abate the nuisance as per City Code Chapter 50-Nuisance Abatement Procedure. A property owner failing to abate nuisance(s) as ordered could further face a municipal infraction per City Code Chapter 3 (the City Code can be found at https://www.centralcityia.gov/code).
The City asks owners to look at their property, and if needed remove or properly store any junk or junk vehicles, maintain grass or weeds, and trim trees overhanging sidewalks and streets or alleys prior to the implementation of this process. Should you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact City Administrator/Clerk Shelley Annis at 319-438-1713.
